Opened by locally revered sushi proprieties as a much smaller restaurant, Willoughby & Co has expanded to become the top seafood destination along the V&A waterfront. The restaurant is home to a full Japanese kitchen offering a series of counter-style eating areas in addition to bistro-style tables arranged in the center of the restaurant with small boutique and deli surrounding. The crowd includes a fair amount of tourists as well as nearby residents who consider the waterfront location a prized feeding ground on weekends.
The Food
Meals begin with a casual order of oyster shooters, sashimi platters and selection of house salads and even soup brought with prompt, efficient delivery. Signature dishes like Rainbow Reloaded, soft-shelled crab with ponzu sauce and salmon saikyo miso yaki are not to be missed as well as ramen dishes and bowls popular with the native Japanese set.
Last Word
Sadly, the restaurant doesn’t take reservations even with a pushy concierge at the helm. Due to its popularity, wait times are lengthy whether waiting for a table or just waiting for your order.
