The biggest hotel opening in decade, Mandarin Oriental Paris lured dining all-stars to lead its line-up of culinary offerings. Sur Mesure as well as the in-house Bar 8 were both created by the design firm of Jouin-Manku, Patrick Jouin being the mind behind such dining rooms as Alain Ducasse at the Plaza-Athenee and Jules Verne. A stately bar and revolutionary simple designed dining room evokes a "cocoon of exclusivity where white dominates" offering crisp, soothing monochromatic clouds on walls created by artist Heidi Winge Strom. At the center of the room is a crystal suspended in what looks like thin air encased in a light well that acts as the visual centerpiece of the room.
The Food
Along the chicest shopping street in Paris is Mandarin Oriental and a dining landscape that includes small plate eatery, Cake Shop and the new gastronomic restaurant Sur Mesure by 2-Star Michelin chef Thierry Marx. Look for Marx’s signature creations of deconstructed, seasonal, profound plates that look to provoke light, sound and taste on specially made plates of white and gold porcelain.
