With a name that plays of the 'Sons of Liberty' who were shopkeepers artisans, and tradesmen fortified the Lower East Side during the British invasion, this Essex street bolt hole is equal parts cool gastro-pub and late-night bar scene. A space that takes the whole reclaimed lumber trend to an all new dimension wows with its authenticity of period collectibles, vintage photographs of actual LES ancestors and original fixtures painstakingly sourced by MoMA curator Chien Dao and Matt Levine. Tables are often kept aside for actual LES residents as a soundtrack of old school hip-hop anthems blare over the rustic rafter and antique chandelier without a single Katy Perry song even infiltrating this fortress.

The Food

The menu fuses a traditional American comfort food menu with imported recipes and spices of Lower East Side immigrant families to create a deli, dinner and late night menu. Seasonal selections include maple-glazed hen on homemade Belgian waffle. Truffle mushroom pizza and Shepard’s pie empanada ideal for sharing. Entrees dabble the continents with Maischewitz braised short ribs, Lamb kabob, signature burger with caramelized onions and lengthy sub-menus of numerous grilled cheese and mac n’ cheese concoctions.

Last Word

Stylish LES gastro-pub offers hipster hoodie crowd and vintage turn-of-the-century style worthy of a museum.
