Cast within a new-build midrise along Chicago’s North End, Maple & Ash defies is simplistic name as one of the city’s most hedonist culinary experiences. As much for the eyes as to taste, Maple & Ash casts an opulent visual with its main dining room laid in rich, reclaimed wood in a herringbone pattern. Opulent emerald and aquamarine upholstery and painted walls give an intimate feel to its modern architecture that could otherwise feel cold and minimal.  Downstairs, a lounge bar and bistro with more casual menu is worthy of its own booking should the more formal upstairs dining room be booked.

The Food

Inspired by the classic grills of Chicago’s 1940s, dinner in in the upstairs dining room offers appetizers of crispy lambs ribs, foie gras with strawberry preserves and full raw bar of oysters, prawns and crab. Known as a steakhouse, the wood-fire oven delivers cuts of rib eye, fillet mignon and a classic steak frites as well as grilled swordfish, line-caught salmon and whole Branzino that’s just as delicious. An additional ‘I Don’t Give A F*CK’ tasting menu offers a bit of everything. Downstairs, the truffle-grilled cheese on brioche and ‘Downstairs’ burger are nothing short of a triumph.

Last Word

Opulent, meaty Chicago grill perfects a gluttonous new dinner scene with lively martini bar along the Gold Coast.
