Tucked within mannerly Leinster Hall in Cape Town’s Gardens District, The Stack is an open-to-the-public brasserie and lounge with private members club. The 160-year building has been reimagined from the stately front porch to the impressive foyer that separates the main dinning room from the adjacent lounge and stairway leading to the upper level members club. Despite a fire that gutted the building a few years ago, period architectural details from molding to marble fireplaces persevere along side a bold, modern décor palette.
The Food
Open for lunch and dinner, the brasserie does feel-good Cape Town cuisine with a carnivore’s edge. Look for beef tartare along side country terrines, salmon gravlax and rock oyster to start. Main course is roast baby chicken, steak frites and ratatouille in addition to daily fish specials.
Last Word
If visiting from out of town, ask the hostess for entry to the upstairs lounge that sometimes is by invite to select diners.
