We really don't like malls and usually encourage their destruction of conversion to period-commercial lofts. But for the time being Mall of the Emirates has saved the beleaguered shopping model with the most impressive mall projects in the world offering the first integrated shopping, leisure and ski resort destination in existence. From afar the complex looks like a Las Vegas casino with asymmetrical architecture and a new beigey-stucco façade with glittering lights. But don't let the over-the-top experience lead you astray from your manner or modesty, the locals remain well behaved and fully covered and encouraged their international guests to do the same.

For the shopping weary, the mall also features a 14-screen Cinestar complex, Magic Planet and Ski Dubai - the world’s first indoor snow resort.

The three level shopping wonder offers a mixed retail, entertainment, shopping, and recreation complex in a singular location that recently opened its first hotel (Germany-based Hotel Kempinski, but please don’t stay there!) With over 400 stores, the mall includes a boutique from almost every international fashion brand including YSL, Armani, Carolina Herrara, Etro, Gucci, Paul Smith ad Dolce Gabbana. Department stores include Debenhams, Centrepoint and the first-ever Harvey Nichols in the Middle East - not to be missed.
