Complementing the neighborhood's eclectic mix of loft-style buildings and historic warehouse spaces, Gansevoort features a midlevel design with shiny zinc-colored exterior on a picturesque cobblestone street. 18-foot glass columns illuminate a two-story revolving door entryway leading into the lobby. Inside, the lobby ceiling lights move up and down creating moods that vary with the time of day. A playful use of textures such as eel skin columns, mohair panels and leather accents create a sleek, yet underwhelming, lounge area. The hotel features a signature rooftop oasis with heated outdoor, glass-surrounded, 45-foot pool offering underwater music and commanding views of the city. Hotel Gansevoort features a 300-seat tri-level Japanese bar and restaurant with covered dining terrace and an outdoor cafe-style dining courtyard. A 5,100-square-foot full-service spa offers a wide range of treatments and a complete exercise facility located on the lower level. The spa also features a VIP nightclub available for private membership, which is currently the toast of NYC's nightlife scene. The crowd varies between seasons, drawing a business-crowd in winter and bikini-clad Manhattanites on warmer summer days.
The Room
Modern but not over-the-top, guestrooms feature a pale color palette with simplistic interiors including leather headboards, wide-oversized armoires and exposed plasma televisions that are the central focus of most rooms. With one-third of the guest rooms featuring balconies, it's worth inquiring about an upgrade during spring and summer months. Other rooms yield bay windows that include a cozy seating area within the window frame. Bathrooms feature richly textured walls, ceramic interiors and custom designed stainless steel 'Gansevoort' sinks set in Carrara marble. Two corner suites on each floor boast separate living room and bedroom, with standard hi-tech amenities like high-speed Internet and Wi-Fi also available in smaller rooms. A dramatic duplex Penthouse Suite features two-story walls of glass with oversized fireplace, custom-designed furniture and comfy-chic mink throw.
