It's one of LA's greenest boutique hotels; the Ambrose is located on a residential Santa Monica street halfway between the shops on Montana Avenue and the shores of the PCH. Also one of LA's only Craftsman-style hotels, the boutique Ambrose juxtaposes exposed beam-ceilings of the Frank Lloyd Wright-period with touches of contemporary design and Asian-inspired furnishings. Visitors enter a cozy lobby area arranged in ultra-suede furnishings with moderns lines and dark walnut fireplace with stone accenting. A striking outdoor area is arranged with pan Asian-inspired garden furnished with koi pond and wall of bamboo.
The Ambrose offers a comprehensive conservation programs that, while not LEED-certified, recycles and composts much of the refuge created by the hotel in addition to using environmentally friendly cleaning products throughout all guest rooms. With no true in-house restaurant, which is a bummer, the hotel patronizes local Urth Cafe and its organic coffees and baked goods for morning breakfast as well as a in-room mini bar offering holistic treats and specialties.
The Room
Let’s be honest, most green hotels are a bummer for true luxury lovers. Surprisingly, the Ambrose presents meticulously arranged rooms that don’t forgo luxurious sheets of sexy design elements to make an environmental statement. Hence, this hotel isn’t LEED-Gold certified as of this writing. While lounging on high thread-count linens, guests can relax in plush robes and slippers offered by the hotel and can take advantage of 24-hour in-room dining and a complimentary continental breakfast. Aside from urban sprawl and the distant Santa Monica Mountains, the hotel doesn't boast much in terms of views. However, in exchange the Ambrose boasts affordable rates for luxury accommodations, which include a modern room equipped with state-of-the-art A/V components that mix business with pleasure.
