Move over Palermo, San Telmo is the latest up-and-coming neighborhood of Buenos Aires luring fashionable portenos. One of the city oldest residential areas, San Telmo has long been associated with its famous antique market and arts district. The area has yet to be gentrified to the extent of Palermo Hollywood or Soho, with boho-art galleries, antique shops, pubs and restaurants still offering that edgy urban vibe. The hotel is composed of a 39-rooms with period art-deco details and loft-style decor, in-house restaurant, and soon-to-open cabaret theater.

The lobbyof Moreno is laid gleaming hardwood floors juxtapose to ebonized club chairs with silky upholstery and metal hardware. The 130 lounge seat theatre features nightclub-style entertainment with local bands and live tango shows, contained in a cozy-dark salon with upholstered booths and oversize sofas. A separate bar and restaurant area seems a bit dressy for the surrounding area, with sleek-barstools and white-glove service, but with a hearty Argentinean menu of steaks and local specialties. A 24-hour gym is available for those looking to get their fitness on, but sadly there is no pool to go show-off the results.

The Room

A dignified five-story building with stone facade offers period-detailing like cornice ceilings, thick molding and oversize windows throughout the property’s 39 guest rooms. Categories vary between Large Rooms and Lofts, with comparable furnishings yet definitive differences in size and amenities. Large rooms offer a conventional hotel space with small plasma TV and built-in writing desk. Lofts offer open-floor plans with sofa and larger TV, with bathroom divided by a single sheer curtain. Dazzling hardwood floors offset tall white ceilings with exposed soffits containing sheer-white drapery. Oversize mirrors lean against dark-washed walls with freestanding king-size bed tucked with super-soft linens and feather pillows. Rich red colored leather upholstery adorns the heavy club chairs and abstract artwork of larger suites. Bathrooms are tiled in black marble with porcelain basin-sinks and rain showers equipped with teakwood floors.
