Design Hotel
Hushed-lip developers created a blogging frenzy around the opening of The Greenwich Hotel, which counts Robery DeNiro as a prime investor of the Tribeca property. The brick façade of this mid-rise hotel occupies a frenzied street corner in New York, offering 75 guest rooms and 12 suites inspired by a cross-pollination of Tibetan and North African influences. The lobby is a variation of what we've seen at the Bowery Hotel and GPH, namely old-world elegance with heavy use of raw woods, velvet upholstery and gabled ceilings. Grayling Design did the design work, previous projects included Schiller's and Balthazar, but with Spanish tiles yielding to herringbone woodwork throughout the corridors and common areas. The hotel was home to an outpost of Ago, DeNiro and Weinstein's LA-trattoria popular with moneyed Hollywood types and boozy starlets, that has since been replaced by a new eatery.
The Room
A total of 88-rooms dazzle with eastern and western design elements as no two spaces look exactly alike. Guest rooms range from compact studio to spacious loft-style suites furnished in imported silk rugs, Dux beds and bathrooms laid in detailed tiling with deep soaking tubs. Larger rooms are designed with wood-paneled alcoves furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and made-to-look-old furnishings. All rooms feature organic toiletries from McBride Beauty as well as a rigorous water conservation and recycling program for environmentally conscious travelers. The hotel will debut an outpost of Shibui Spa complete with swimmers pool and well-equipped gym to keep fussy travelers from having to walk to a nearby Equinox.
