Luxury Hotel
The Burj argues persuasively that it is the world's only seven star hotel and whilst technically it remains in the category of five-star luxury, the description is well intended and beguiling.

Images of this hotel adorn many residents' car number plates and it is so iconic that there is even a 160 page photographic book dedicated to its beauty.
Uncompromising in its bid to be the best, the luxury begins at the start of the journey. Stepping into a custom made Rolls Royce, the familiar logo can even be discovered embossed onto the leather headrests as your chauffeur transports you to an island like no other.

On arrival, guests are greeted by an invitation to sample dates and Arabic coffee, along with rose water to replenish after the journey. Little touches of brilliance continue throughout, with complimentary snacks in-room. For those with a competitive streak, the designer car journey can be replicated as a driver, with Ferrari, Aston Martin and Lamborghini sports-cars available to rent from the concierge.

In fact, the Burj Al Arab offers everything but privacy. Groups of tourists regularly descend for afternoon tea and scheduled gawping, although with the lavish décor it is hard to blame them. The lack of privacy can be countered by a visit to seafood restaurant Al Mahara, which features three pre-bookable private dining rooms. Unapologetically kitsch, the experience includes a personalized captain who guides a three-minute simulated submarine ride to the eatery. Once there, large aquarium views accompany a seafood fare
The Room
All 202 suites are exceptionally spacious, with a spiral staircase separating living and sleeping areas. Downstairs has a private bar area and guest washroom, whilst upstairs bathrooms feature quite spectacular oversized Jacuzzis backed by traditional Arabian paintings. The décor can be a little moody, with navy blue and yellow hues prevailing whilst one suite, not for the fainthearted, features a burgundy carpet. The occasional geometric pattern mimics ancient Iranian architecture, yet for the most part visuals are thoroughly modern. All rooms have plasma-screen TVs, fully equipped internet-ready laptops with free wireless access, and private butlers. There is an emphasis on personal service and 1500 staff work diligently, including a personalised butler for each room. The Panoramic Suite is a sight, with its floor to ceiling windows featuring exceptional vistas of the Arabian Gulf, whilst the two Royal Suites, priced at $25,000 each, boast a home cinema and private elevator. Spa treatments can be taken anywhere " in room, at the designated 18th floor treatment centre or even on-board a private yacht. Desert safaris can be arranged at the concierge whilst onsite guests can indulge in horse-riding, polo and golf. Finally, as the perfect end to a day at the Burj, butlers can talk visitors through the bath menu, featuring an invigorating Mint bath or more decadent options, all inclusive of champagne and strawberries.
