Atlantis is yet another high-end hotel to join Dubai's overcrowded skyline, yet whilst its rival Burj al Arab offers contemporary luxury, Atlantis is home to unpretentious fun. A credit-crunch shunning $30 million launch party celebrated its opening in style in September 2008, and the place has played home to numerous celebrity clientele ever since. Kylie Minogue has performed there, whilst supermodel Agyness Deyn, actresses Mischa Barton and Lindsay Lohan and singer Janet Jackson have all stayed at the resort.
Atlantis promises to deliver the experience dreams are made of- although some would say seeing UK glamour model Jordan being pushed around the grounds in a golf buggy, a feature of the opening night, is a vision more nightmarish than heavenly. Inside, candy-floss kitsch architecture prevails and sea themes are abundant. A huge hit with the children, its biggest claim to fame is the adjoining family orientated water park. A vertical waterslide over 30 metres tall is aptly christened the Leap of Faith, where brave visitors plunge through a shark-filled lagoon to reach safety. Visitors can also swim and interact with lovable dolphins. On dry land, the hotel's many restaurants, bars and kids' clubs provide additional entertainment, with Xbox and Playstation areas for the teenagers.

The Room
The resort is based on the lost city of Atlantis hence its name. Standard rooms are modest in size with a choice of either ocean or island vistas. The Lost Chambers suites are more impressive, earning the resort the dubious privilege of being the first ever to offer an aquarium room. 65,000 fish are clearly visible from full-length panoramic windows, just a few short inches from your bed. Meanwhile the Bridge Suite is decidedly the most opulent, connecting the resort’s east and west towers with full-length sea views. It’s a compelling view that certainly defies boredom. Satellite television, direct dial telephones and wireless internet access are all included. It’s a veritable paradise for those seeking a memorable family holiday, although not quite so popular with romantic couples or a more mature and discerning crowd.
