An Asian-theme resort palace located steps from Malcolm's Beach, Amanyara exceeds even a devout Aman-addict's expectations of a dramatic Carriebean refuge infused with hedonistic delights. Built around the curvature of a rocky outcropping on one of the British West Indies' best sand beaches, Amanyara is situated amongst a series of Zen-reflection ponds and zero-edge pools with one-story architecture of private guest pavilions and villas. The lobby dazzles with 20-foot ceilings and open-wall architecture facing views of the azul-blue sea and interior natural with man-made ponds where you'll find the in-house eatery and lobby bar. There's also a separate Beach Club, best by afternoon, with its own dining scene available both night and say.
The spa attributes of the Amanyara are rivaled only by Parrot Cay, at least in the Caribbean, with a fitness center equipped with personal trainers and tennis courts as well as the on-site Serenity Villa with its outdoor yoga pavilion, Buddhist treatment rooms and on-site healers that can chase away evil toxins or just pump you up with the latest anti-aging syringe. At the center of the resort complex is a dark-bottom pool, that wouldn't look out-of-place in Bali or Thailand, with its padded sun loungers, teak cabanas and deserted nearby beach that make it the top resort on the island.
The Room
Dramatic architecture of towering ceilings with teak and bamboo woodwork is interpreted through sparse, minimalist design for a series of guest pavilions and larger villas that define Amanyara. Private and secluded, all rooms remarkably similar in design and well spaced around the property to ensure maximum privacy and relaxation. Most rooms overlook a private lagoon, individual plunge pool or large swathe of sea from glass-enclosed rooms arranged in built-in beds and oversize terraces featuring low-flung chaise lounges and small tables for late-night dining or morning breakfast. Bathrooms are divided from the main living or sleeping space with wood screens that reveal terrazzo floors with freestanding bathtubs and rain showers surrounded in intricate wood work and built-in features from integrated closets to small seating area. Due to the location of Amanyara, more-active travelers should rent a car from the airport to avoid having to be chauffeured around in oversize vans with fellow guests.
