Gastro-Hotel
Along a speedy thoroughfare of Sag Harbour Turnpike, Topping Rose House looms its distinguished colonial facade towards an agrarian landscape removed from the hustle of Southampton. A joint venture between financier Bill Campbell, former-luxury exec Simon Critchell and star chef Tom Colicchio results in a transformative property that becomes one of the few desirable hotel accommodations in the entire Hamptons. A manicured driveway leads to the iconic structure that was once the family seat of a famous judge before a series of restaurants and inns that operated the building. Today, a stately white-sided building ensconced in a grassy garden leads to a wrap-around porch and interior space defined by a parlor-style lobby adorned in a palette of Barbara Barry meets industrial-chic design choices. The on-site restaurant operated by Colicchio is the hottest in the Hamptons with its own on-site farm, as well as a more nautically inspired bar with parchment barstools and handsome mixologists.
The Room
While some may pause at the idea at staying at what is truly a gastro-inn, rooms at Topping Rose House ease any trepidations. Rooms vary in location between the historic main house and a series of outlying structures that includes cottage accommodation nestled along the on-site farm and offering a bit more privacy away from the action of the restaurant and lounge. Entry-level King rooms feature period fireplaces, iron canopy beds lined in Frette linens and Madeline Weinrib woven rugs. Upgraded cottage rooms offer private patios manicured with seasonal foliage and in-roo minibars curated by Coliccio himself.
