Hotel Type
Boutique Resort
Inside an overgrown Cape Cod facade, one discovers a Laguna Beach treasure of casual beach culture that even the nearby Ritz and St. Regis down the road find hard to beat. Like staying over at the Kennedy's Hyannisport compound, guests to enjoy casual elegance without the frill or fuss that pretentious chains often inflict. The lobby area is quite small and the rooftop restaurant is accessed through a '70s style elevator that is slow and loud. A spa was added to the hotel in late 1999, offering massage and facial treatments - but don't expect too much as the space is very small. Surf & Sand offers a temporary beach home for those willing to forgo things like frequent stay programs and a golf course, instead settling on the most spectacular location and humble luxury hotel in the OC.
The Room
Rooms are spread-out over a small luxury tower and separate guest wing with oceanfront balconies and private terraces. Some rooms face in inner valet courtyard and PCH, these should be avoided due to noise and limited views. Rooms are decorated in pale-beach tones with strong use of white and muted-brown colors. Soft earth tones paired with touches of the sea like shells and sand decorate every inch. All accommodations are comfortably lavish offering soft robes, high thread linens, slippers and shutters in each of the guest rooms. Ocean front rooms allow guests to slide their shutters open to the sounds of waves that can be heard throughout the night.
