A leading gallery of the high-end Cape Town and South African art scene, Goodman Gallery operates a destination gallery open to the public in the boho Woodstock neighborhood in Cape Town. Established in 1966 by Linda Goodman, the gallery was at the forefront of the anti-apartheid movement with its 1985 Art Against Apartheid exhibition that put it on the international map. Sold to Liza Essers in 2008, today the gallery has expanded with locations in Johannesburg and at the One&Only Cape Town with exhibition showings at Art Basel and Art Basel Miami since 2003. The Gallery is home to over 40 represented artists including William Kentridge, Kendell Geers and David Goldblatt.

Tips

Goodman Gallery regularly exhibits international black artists like African-American Hank Willis Thomas and Kara Walker, “who both elucidate on the global effects of oppression inflicted by one race on another.”

Last Word

Cape Town’s Goodman Gallery brings South African art to the global market with exhibitions and representation of next generation and contemporary artists from South Africa and wider-African continent.
