Since opening in 2004, Dover Street Market has become London’s premiere address for curated, uber high-end fashion. This concept boutique created by Comme des Garcons founder Rei Kawakubo arrives in Tokyo’s Ginza district in a space that’s even larger and design that’s even more abstract. Given the more commercial nature of central Ginza, the upscale address is couture juxtaposition to the international brands and mainstream conglomerates that fill the retail landscape of the neighborhood. A glass and steel sarcophagus designed by Canada’s Patkau Architects frames a shopping narrative that includes varying floors of labels from Thom Browne and Balmain to Rick Owens and Celine.
Tips
Look for period special events, fashion nights and even the annual sale as part of the DSM Ginza platform.

Clothing is displayed in abstract presentations that mix modern pop art with sculptural expression dotted with occasional housewares and accessory items.
