Hotel Type

Resort Hotel

It's the chicest place to stay in Vegas, or so it appears, utilizing the hotel's separate entry with elaborate floral garden and Tuscan-inspired portico. Somewhere between the glitzy façade and reception lobby, something goes remarkably wrong. Guests enter a '80s-inspired showplace of dizzying floral color-patterns and décor reminiscent of an upscale convalescent home. While the hotel itself is located on the upper-floors of the Mandalay Bay complex, the main reception area is on the ground floor offering it's own signature Charlie Palmer Steakhouse and private spa reserved for hotel guests. Adjacent to the casino-free lobby, there's also a private pool adjacent to the Mandalay wave pool entirely free of anyone sexy or hip. Hit the Moorea Beach Club for something exclusive, or else bring your own eye candy. For those looking for the ring of lot-machines and rush of smoke-filled gaming, the casino is located through a long corridor and unmarked door that puts you smack in the middle of the Mandalay gaming area.

The Room

This is not the Fours Seasons you know and love. The Las Vegas outpost of the star-hotel chain recently underwent massive renovations to transform their dated property into something chic and fabulous. The results are rather mixed. A long elevate ride to the hotel’s 34th floor opens to a tranquil reception area offering never-used phone and jetliner views of the city. Mile-log corridors are intersected by the occasional side table and conservative artwork that looks like an extension of the wallpaper. Thick wood-doors open to revitalized guest rooms offering gold-and-green paisley carpeting with streamline furnishings of minimalist lines and upbeat patterns or stripes. Smaller rooms feature no seating areas, just poorly placed writing desks that seem ill minded for a Vegas weekend. Bathrooms offer standard bathtubs that are barley deep enough for soaking but with separate rain showers well-accessorized with L’Occitane bath products. Larger suites offer separate living and sleeping accommodations with stately dining areas and sweeping views of the desert valley. Luckily, the property is also incredibly well-discounted for Vegas and even offers resort-credits and single-night availability on weekends and holidays.
