Most people have never even heard of it, this ultra exclusive hotel-within-a-hotel located on the top two floors of MGM-Grand Hotel and Casino. While everything below it is a massive emerald sprawl of dizzying carpet, kitschy Hollywood memorabilia and beer-drinking frat boys, the SkyLofts at MGM-Grand offer refined loft-style apartment accommodations with penthouse views made for high-end getaways. Guests arrive via complimentary airport transfer in house's black Maybach, greeted at the hotel by a personal concierge that walks them to their individual guest rooms where the actual check-in takes place. Not far behind is a personal butler, available 24-hours a day for anything from votive candles to bedtime tea service. Once the initial thrill of the attentive service and room size subsides, guests discover that once off the two-floors that make up the SkyLofts everything else is MGM-Grand status-quo including the family-minded pool area, lackluster casino and dated shopping arcade.
The Room
Designed by interior architect Tony Chi, the hotel’s 51 loft-rooms are designed with tastefully modern furnishings, cutting edge technology and commanding views of the Vegas strip through 24-foot floor-to-ceiling windows. Room sizes vary between 1500 to 600-square feet offering one, two and three-bedroom units. Guests enter the bi-level units through two-story foyers connecting the central living and dining areas. Pre-Columbian sculptures (yes, good art in Vegas) and boldly colored pop art add an element of whimsy to the mostly black-and-white rooms. Larger two and three bedroom units offer an additional game room with billiards table and video game consoles. Bedrooms are stylishly sedate chambers perfect for sleeping through the toughest of hangovers, complete with blackout shades, Italian linens, and bedside remote for virtually everything. Oversize bathrooms with toilet-views of downtown offer steam showers and individually sized Bulgari toiletries. While you won’t want to hit the MGM-Grand pool area or any of the hotel’s B-List nightclubs, the in-room espresso machine will save a difficult pilgrimage to Starbucks on your way to the area’s hotter attractions.
