Montage announces new lifestyle brand

November 05, 2014 08.59 AM

A California-born hotel success story, Montage Hotel began its life with an ambitious beachfront resort development in Laguna Beach that has since spun-off into equally successful properties in Beverly Hills, Deer Valley and Hawaii. Commanding some of the highest room rates in the California in cities where $500+ a night rates are the norm, the hotelier has announced a new lifestyle concept called Pendry Hotels that looks to extend its cache into other markets. Montage CEO Alan Fuerstman announced the first location to be in San Diego for the Pendry collection, a new brand that will “marry the culture of service for which Montage is renowned with an inspired, fashion-forward and design-driven approach to hospitality.”

Located in San Diego’s Gas Lamp District, the hotel faces existing competition with well-established brands like Andaz, W Hotels and Hard Rock already in the neighborhood. Room rates are also an issue in downtown San Diego, hovering around an anemic $200 per night in the hotel category based on recent searches throughout the year. The Pendry, however, will bring an added luxury cache to a 317-room hotel with amenities like a rooftop pool, ultra-lounge, beer hall and two signature restaurants. While it’s opening is still two years off, scheduled for mid-2016, look for new Pendry-locations to be announced in the near future.
