In a town still tearful of losing its ever-hot Club Opera, the return of Stereo in Montreal has filled the gap for underground hipsters looking for an enclave of cool once the lights go dim in Old Montreal. Not really the fedora and Metallica T-shirt scene of urban fashionistas that Club Opera attracted, Stereo is more a ground roots come as you are movement that resurrects the club’s previous number 1 status before going up in flames, quite literally, after the great fire of 2008 and then another in late-2009.

But alas even killer fire can’t keep a good club kid down. The interior of the club looks much better than before, and newer of course, with upgraded dance floor that now includes a small stage for live acts or just stage-worthy Djs like Roger Sanchez and Victor Calderone. The club also features some eco-perks like recycled flooring and waterless urinals that are responsible for some smelly bathrooms on busier nights. Saturdays are the biggest night of the week boasting a weekly platform of hush-hush covers that are kept a surprise till the actual performance.
Tips
Post Club opera, Montreal hottest dance club now requires advanced planning on weekends with lengthy line best avoided with a prompt 1am arrival when the club opens.
