Luxury Boutique Hotel

Along the eastern edge of London's Hyde Park midway between the famous Dorchester and Metropolitan Hotels, 45 Park Lane is the latest luxury boutique from Sultan of Brunei-owned hotel group known as the Dorchester Collection. Having amassed a starry portfolio of luxury hotels like Paris's Le Meurice and the Beverly Hills Hotel, 45 Park Lane serves as the first new-build for the company captured along a zippy front motor court leading to a grand atrium defined by wood paneled walls, marble floors and columns bursting in metal-trimmed deco details penned by Thierry Despont - the man behind the remodels of London's Claridge's and NY's Carlyle.

An initial impression gives a boutique hotel feel, the grandest of sorts with a gilded opulence and quaff Mayfair crowd infused with those of royal birth or business pedigree. At the heart of the hotel is a starry new eatery that brings LA's Wolfgang Puck and his CUT steakhouse to the hotel with dining room that mimics the feel of the lobby lounge but with bold prints by Damien Hirst on the walls. Upstairs, a small lounge called Bar 45 catches those coming from the restaurant open till well past midnight.

The Room

Small even by London standards, 45 Park Lane is home to just 45 guest rooms and suites in a design palette that mixes 20s London with elements of deco and regency design. The result is a rich and vivid palette for entry-level rooms with small entrance area leading to integrated living and sleeping area with walls lined in linen with wood-panel framing amongst floors covered in patterned wool rug and cushy furnishings. Bathrooms feature exquisite slab-marble detailing with separate steam shower and soaking tub with mirrors revealing in-lay TVs. Larger suites on the hotel’s 8th floor offer wrap-around windows facing Hyde Park with configurations that vary between one and three bedrooms.
