We remember this space as Spider Club, that circa-2003 hotspot that created the VIP lounge trend since followed by Foxtail and Crown Bar. Created by John Lyons, owner of adjacent-Avalon, and the team behind nearby Green Door; Bardot is the latest evolution of the VIP lounge complete with a stunning new look and tapas-style supper menu. Visitors arrive to a dramatic staircase the separates the space from more-proletariat Avalon and its calendar of weekend bands and concerts.
The space dates back to 1927, perfectly recreated in a deco-meets-Morocco space of extravagantly tufted-leather banquettes, honey-colored plaster walls and ebonized wood flooring. Sculpted archways dangling in vintage pendant lighting and ornate chandeliers interrupt tall-carved ceilings. Walls are adorned in art that recreates the work of Rubens and Botticelli with robust female nudes the beg to say, "Go ahead ladies, eat." And eating they can do, and not just with a haphazard snack menu available at LA's top bars. This menu is by Violet-chef Jared Simons who creates a small-plate menu of larger flavors including seared scallops and tasting of beef brisket.
