Accessed via a staggeringly chic valet area, visitors arrive to the interior lobby of the Mondrian Hotel designed by Marcel Wanders. With its signature burned Mooi chairs and iconic artwork, a staff dressed in lounge resort wear guides visitors to their appropriate area while turning away curious riffraff in denim shorts and washed-out tank tops. A concept of indoor/outdoor design begins in the interior bar, wedged along the first floor bar near the dramatic black-lacquer staircase. Whimsical pillars that uphold the second story atrium recreate Alice in Wonderland architecture, accented by billowing white swags of fabric that have become a Miami design icon. The bar continues onto the main pool deck, with its red outdoor furnishings created by Base on Lincoln Road with rich red rugs with Moroccan pouf pillows. A row of several sleek cabanas contain oversize white lounge furnishings created by Wanders himself, framed in ivy topiary ceilings and glitzy chandeliers. By late night the space comes to life in the gentile sway of ocean breezes and house DJs that spin lounge anthems to a crowd of sexy bronzed singles till 3am.
