Had the Rockefeller's had hip and sexy party children back in the day, Avenue is the kind of old school boite we imagined would have hosted the crème of NYC society in its heyday. Today the club is a favorite of the posh NYC club-set contained within a deco meets French industrial lounge in Chelsea. Owned by kids behind Marquee and Tao in Las Vegas, fortified double wooden-doors is where a night usually begins with some treated with white glove service and other nodded away with, "Expect at least an hour or so" just to get past the dapper doorman.
Once inside a textured design of walnut wainscoting and velvety walls are hung with vintage mirrors with two long tufted-banquettes lining the main floor lounge. An old staircase intersects the three-story space up to an upstairs lounge arranged in more cozy collection of rustic leather sofa and iron chandeliers. A more grown-up vibe than other New York nightspots, Avenue also offers a late-night menu of white grilled cheese, gourmet sliders and French toast dessert accompanied by cocktails made by the in-house mixologist.
