What do you get when you mix three utterly hot proprietors behind Hotel Griffou and Lambs Club on a large plain of empty hotel rooftop? It's called Jimmy's situated within the 18th floor rooftop of The James in Soho and it's giving another famous New York rooftop (Boom Boom Room) some serious competition with the city pretty intelligentsia. The Chicago-based hotel chain utilized designer Thomas Schlesser (Blackbird, DBGB) to visually define the space located under the hotel's architectural 'halo' with river-to-river skyline views.

The result is a true guy's pad of exotic wood floors with reflective tile walls in herringbone arrangement with in-lay fireplace. A reclaimed bar top accented in questionable square-mosaic detailing is opposite a groovy lounge arranged in Arco lamps and movable lounge arrangements without a 'Reserved' tag or chilled vodka bottle in sight.  Glass doors open to a rather small pool deck open during warmer months and essentially doubles the crowd of guests in $300 flannel shirts and made-to-look old boots that work the space most nights chatting of Ginsberg and Mamet drinking elaborate cocktails like Chanel No. 9 and Legal in Vermont devised of bitters from an in-house garden.

Tips

Jimmy’s attempts to create “a classic pub with a 1970’s New York twist” with signature cocktails and professional singles high above Soho that goes beyond the hype of other New York rooftops.

Last Word

Rooftop hotel lounge at The James is more famous for its indoor bar scene than the pool it has outside.
