From its gritty exterior with period 30s signage and illuminated marquee, you'd expect to find aging Paris strippers or the cast of the real Moulin Rouge to be found after-hours. But Chez Moune is in fact one of Paris's hippest enclaves for long-haired, edgy artists/actors/models/bohemians to groove the night away amongst some of the city's most sought-after DJs and musical mixing talents. Founded in the '30s as a small cabaret lounge that later went on to become exclusively lesbian, today the guest list is exclusively cool with few exceptions made at the late 12am door that open only slightly to Paris's more sexy and fashionable clientele.

Inside, A long and narrow space is adorned in red velvet walls with psychedelic artwork and iridescent ceiling and floors that give the illusion of naughty. Guests stakeout a series of banquette tables or spot at the compact bar with black lights and tattooed French bartenders that linger with eye contact and mustached grin. Ladies should keep in mind that the area between the 9th and 18th, known as Pigalle, is a well known red-light district and passing solicitation is just part of the neighborhood charm.

Tips

One of the Paris’s hippest nightclubs located in a former lesbian cabaret in the red light frequented 9th Arrondissment.

Last Word

The later the better for Chez Moune, no one ever arrives before 12am and on busier weekends the action doesn’t really get going until 3am.
