It’s the downside of hipster fame that’s resulted in stories in the NY Times and Wallpaper about Tokyo’s most famous mixologist, Koji Ozaki, who oversees the groovy-cool bar known as Radio. The space alludes to another time with long bar flanked by chunky wooden shelves of vintage glasses and retro bric-a-brac and main room defined by an iconic vintage radio that plays static-toned lounge anthems in the backdrop. More homey than industrial, the space features stain-glass windows and crafty accents like fresh flowers and hulky artwork to contrast the thoroughly haute couture crowd that’s has also, unfortunately, become a refuge for scene-seeking vacationers and ex-pats that can give the bar a touristy vibe at time.

Tips

Better in early evening than late-night, the low-key cocktail bar is ideal as a post-supper night cap than full-night on the town destination.

Last Word

Retro-cool cocktail bar specialties in slow-stirred cocktail concoctions by legendary staff of mixologists that’s benefitted from a spate of international fashion press of last years.
