A meticulous glass and stone façade offers passersby glimpses of one of four Florence hotels owned by the Ferragamo fashion family. Continentale is the best of the bunch, overlooking the Arno river and the Ponte Vecchio in the city's historical center close to the Uffizi Gallery, Piazza della Signoria, Duomo and Palazzo Pitti. A bright and airy lobby doesn't try to hide the fact that it's really just a fashionable version of a boutique hotel, divided by the main entrance and decorated in a mix of modern reminiscent of '50s Italian cinema with stone floor and black-and-white print artwork. <br /> <br />Continentale lacks a proper restaurant with morning breakfast taken in a compact dining studio with wide plank floors and clock-detail as well as rooftop Sky Lounge for evening cocktails, luncheons and private parties that in recent seasons has started to show its age and could use a bit of re-fluffing. A small fitness area offers handful of cardio machines, weight area and spa treatment room for on-the-fly workouts or sauna sessions. <br />
The Room
A total of 42 room offer Por Santa Marina and river-facing views ranging from classic singles to deluxe tower categories each individually designed by Ferragamo family staff. Trademark white curtains cocoon bed and windows with double pleating draped on wide-plank floors and smooth white-pained walls mark light and airy spaces. Larger superior rooms include simple single sofa seating area with black-and-white fashion photography large picture window opposite four-poster bed. Deluxe and Tower rooms show-off the hotel’s real design ambition with window seats overlooking Ponte Vecchio and river as well as a penthouse located in a medieval tower with upper level bathroom suite with double basin sinks and custom rectangular tub fit for super model Rapunzels.
